IRONMAN Langkawi: race weekend on the island, 21 November 2026

IRONMAN Malaysia and IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi race on the same Saturday, 21 November 2026: a dawn swim start at Holiday Villa and a finish line on Cenang Beach. The planner for supporters, families and everyone else on the island that week.

Race day is Saturday 21 November 2026, and Langkawi hosts both distances at once: the full IRONMAN Malaysia, a 3.8 kilometre swim, a 180 kilometre bike ride and a 42.2 kilometre run, and the IRONMAN 70.3 at half those distances, sharing the course and the day. IRONMAN's own race page confirms the date, and the finish for both is on Cenang Beach. The listing, with the official source, is the IRONMAN Malaysia and 70.3 event page.

How race day runs

The 70.3 age-group field starts first, a rolling start from 7:15am, with the full-distance race following at 7:45am, both from the beach at Holiday Villa Resort & Beachclub. Athlete check-in runs earlier in the week at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, and the bike transition is one of the few air-conditioned ones on the circuit, a genuine mercy in Langkawi's heat: expect air temperatures around 30 degrees and water near 29. The bike course rolls through the island's hills and villages before the flat run brings everyone home along Cenang Beach, where the finish sits by the Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa and the day ends in the beach bars.

Watching it

Supporters have an easy course to work with. Be at Holiday Villa for the swim start in the early light, then base yourself on Pantai Cenang: the run course and the finish are there, the cafes open early on race day, and the last finishers come in under lights late in the evening. Roads on the course close in sections through the day, so plan any island touring for the days either side rather than race day itself.

The days either side

Race week fills the island from the Wednesday onward, and finishers' families stay on after. The one essential ride is the SkyCab cable car up Gunung Machinchang to the Sky Bridge, bookable from the Langkawi attractions page, and worth keeping for a clear morning after the race, since high winds can close the top station. Langkawi is duty-free, the airport is a short drive from Pantai Cenang, and December's peak season has not yet started, which makes race week one of the better-priced windows of the island's year.
