Things to do in Melaka.

The historic port city two hours south of the capital, inscribed with George Town in 2008 as the Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca: 500 years of trade between East and West in one walkable old town of Dutch, Portuguese and Peranakan streets.

Melaka old town: Dutch Square, St Paul's Hill and Jonker Street

The UNESCO core zone on foot: the red Stadthuys and Christ Church on Dutch Square, St Paul's Church on the hill above, the A Famosa gate below it, and Jonker Street's shophouses across the river. The old town itself is free to wander; what you book is the guiding and the getting there.

How to book: Walk-up and free in the old town itself. The bookable route for most visitors is a day tour: the tour below departs Kuala Lumpur, about two hours away, with hotel pickup and lunch included.
